Getting dressed-up in tropical locations can be tricky. The intense heat is awesome while you’re semi submerged in a pool sipping on something fabulous. Find yourself at a destination wedding or on a fancy night out and what you’d wear back home is probably not going to cut it. When humidity is high and the sun is strong, you need fabrics that breathe and pieces that allow for airflow. That brings me to my latest purchase – the Watson X Watson ‘Wave’ dress. I borrowed it to shoot in Fiji and loved it so much; I ended up buying it when I got back.
After almost two weeks of island hopping around Fiji, we spent our last two nights at the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa. And on our last night, were treated to an incredible dinner at Navo – a fine dining restaurant at the resort that overlooks the island of Navo. It was the perfect opportunity to get dressed up and my Watson X Watson dress worked perfectly. You’d expect a structured-looking dress to have thick fabric, and although it’s lined and stays in place, the dress is super light and incredibly comfortable. It’s loose, without being flowy, and the open back allows for maximum air circulation.
Michaela shot me getting ready in our beautiful suite at Club InterContinental – the resort’s luxury accommodation that’s like a resort within a resort. Not only do you get access to your own butler service, it’s pretty much adults-only with kids under 12 not allowed. You also get access to exclusive Club InterContinental areas like an amazing pool and lounge area where you can enjoy complimentary afternoon tea and sunset cocktails and canapés each night. Obviously Micheala and I took full advantage of these perks and took a few snaps of my dress in between sips before heading to dinner.
What I love about this dress is that is was a constant reminder of my incredible home back in Sydney. The print is from a photograph of the ocean at Tamarama Beach – I also took a string bikini in the same print but in the black, white and grey colour-way.
Our room was a luxurious one-bedroom suite that comes with its own private plunge pool, sun lounging lawn, outdoor daybeds and oversized freestanding outside bath. If you’re staying on the main island of Viti Levu before jetting off to the islands, we can’t recommend Club InterContinental enough.
