As a professional summer chaser and tropical island hopper, my summer beauty routine is all-year-round. I like to think that I’m pretty low maintenance in the grooming department. I had a whole lot of laser hair removal years ago, which worked really well. But I did skip getting my legs done, as it was way too expensive. And I only managed to have three sessions on my arms as I am always in the sun – you need to have a minimum of six weeks out of the sun before you can have laser hair removal on the area.
My arms weren’t that hairy to start with, but I am half Greek so my hair was quite dark – ideal for laser hair removal. The only thing I didn’t realise when I had it done was that the hair above my elbow was super fine and blonde so it couldn’t be removed.
So my hair removal routine is now down to shaving my legs, which I am actually slightly obsessive about – I literally shave them every single morning, as I have to have them smooth all day, every day.
I tried waxing years ago at a salon, but I have ridiculously sensitive skin and it just didn’t react well. I ended up with a horrible rash on my legs that was most likely an allergic reaction to one of the products they used.
Since then I’ve been hesitant about waxing, but when Marzena approached me to try their new wax strips and hair remover lotion, I was intrigued. Both products have been specially re-formulated for sensitive skin. They use Aloe Vera, Vitamin E and Green Tea – a formulation that also apparently makes the process a whole lot less painful.
So with the Australian summer finally here, it was the perfect time to try a new range of hair removal products.
What I love about the Sensitive Large Wax Strips is that you warm them up for 5-10 seconds between your hands before you use them, making the wax soft and pliable. Although the wax is very sticky, the combination of the formula and fabric strip maximises the grip on the hair not the skin, making them less painful. While pulling off the soft fabric strip definitely still hurt, my skin was only slightly red for around 15 minutes afterwards – nothing like my previous waxing experience that ended in disaster. You can also use each wax strip multiple times during each treatment, making the whole process super affordable.
I found the Sensitive Hair Remover Lotion amazing for my arm hair situation. I have had three laser hair removal sessions on my arms, but I haven’t been able to have anymore, as you need to have your skin out of the sun for a minimum of six weeks before your session. Unless earth freezes over, this is never going to happen, so I have been stuck with having random patches of hair growing back sporadically on my arms. I have tried shaving them a few times, but it felt too weird.
I am genuinely really stoked to have found a solution to remove the hair on my arms. I used the lotion to remove the stray hairs and I was also able to remove the blonde hair above my elbow that the laser didn’t pick up. And apparently the formulation also includes a growth inhibitor to help reduce the reappearance of hair. I really couldn’t be more pleased with the results. If that’s not enough, the lotion spells like tropical island vacay dreams.
Marzena Sensitive Hair Remover Lotion and Sensitive Large Wax Strips are available from Coles and Priceline at a super affordable price point – $7.50 for the strips and $8.50 for the lotion. Make sure you add them to your summer beauty routine this season.
