After dropping my favourite Panama hat somewhere between the beach and the car in Bondi a few years back, I thought I’d never find one I could love as much. I’d bought it while backpacking around South America, so it was as authentic as they come. Traditional style with natural straw, a black band and wide brim, it was the perfect summer hat. Well, until I discovered the ultra-sleek Helen Kaminski ‘Carmita’ Panama hat.
With a super premium grade eight weave and black leather band, the hat has an adjustable inner band for ultimate comfort. Now usually I wouldn’t consider a black summer hat, but this is not your regular hat. I’ve worn it in crazy hot countries in the blazing sun and not once has it felt hot on my head. While it’s practical, it’s quite a statement piece and definitely stands out amongst traditional white and natural coloured Panama hats.
If you follow This Island Life on social, you might have noticed this dream Panama hat featuring throughout my feeds. While this trip to Thailand was it’s maiden voyage, it’s since travelled with me to Singapore, Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and next week I’ll be boarding a flight to Europe with it on my head. Greek Islands here we come!
